Carolee Anita Boyles holds a B.S. in biology from Florida State University and a Master of Forest Resources and Conservation from the University of Florida. She likes to joke that she is a “house divided” just by herself. Her B.S. is unique in that she not only has the minor in organic chemistry required by FSU, she also traveled across Tallahassee to Florida A&M University and used her elective courses to get a second minor in entomology.
Carolee spent 42 years as a freelance magazine writer, covering a wide range of topics including conservation, hunting, fishing, travel, country living and retail sales. More recently she has turned to writing fiction, and presently is working on a science fiction novel. Besides writing, Carolee is also a lapidary and jewelry maker, and sells rough rock, slabs, cabochons and finished jewelry.
In her spare time (is there such a thing?) Carolee breeds and shows flat-coated retrievers under the kennel name Magnolia Flat-Coated Retrievers. Besides training and showing her own dogs in conformation, obedience, rally, agility, field and scent work, she is an AKC obedience and rally judge.
Carolee is married to Richard Marshall, and has a son, three step-daughters and two flatcoats, Scarlett and Windy. She and Rick presently live in Loxahatchee, Florida, and will be relocating to the Salt Springs, Florida community of Sunday Bluff in early 2025.
